Annual bird survey tracks numbers
Each year, a group of people gathers to participate in the annual winter bird count in which they help track bird species, their numbers and where they dwell. This is a crucial task as the Audubon Society states that about two-thirds of North American bird species are currently at risk of becoming extinct from climate change and other factors. One of the species they are seeing less and less of is the European house sparrow, which is considered an invasive species in the United States. Many consider these birds a huge nuisance as they are known for taking over other birds nests.
Pigeons are often looked at as nuisances, and they can be. However, the National Pigeon Association sees them a bit differently. The 2020 Grand National show will take place in Texas this weekend and the event showcases around 200 breeds of exhibition pigeons. Certain types of breeds of the bird are considered exhibition pigeons and can be easily trained to perform certain tasks.
